The body of a man believed to be in his middle age was Saturday discovered at New Heaven junction, Olokoro, in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria.
Lying face up, the hands of the yet-to-be identified man were tied behind him and there were burns all over his body as well as a visible deep cut in one of his legs.
It is not clear what were used to inflict the wound and cause the burns.
Much as residents of the area wonder what the cause of the dead was, speculations are rife it could be the handiwork of armed robbers or a cult-related killing.
The Abia State police command says it’s aware of the development and that it’s investigating.
“It’s true. Identity unknown but suspected to be a thief,” spokesperson for the police in the state, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said. “Act condemnable and at variance with our call to refrain from jungle justice.”
The body has been taken to a nearby hospital where it was deposited in a morgue.
