Some repentant insurgents Saturday begged for forgiveness.
The insurgents made the appeal on the streets of the Borno State capital, Maiduguri, to residents as they carried out sanitation exercises.
The sanitation exercise was organized by the Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD, in conjunction with the Borno State government.
The insurgents wore T-shirts with inscriptions such as: “Please forgive us,” “Let’s rebuild Borno again,” “We have repented.”
A CDD staff – Mala Mustafa – said sanitation exercise was one way of gradual reintegration of the insurgents back into the society.
About 400 repentant insurgents had been mobilised for the exercise with 50 of them participating on Saturday for a start at the Maiduguri hajj camp, he added.
