The majority leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly has died.

Nnamdi Okafor reportedly slumped and died Wednesday in a hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Okafor was in his second term representing Awka South State constituency 1.

Anambra State lawmakers were on a legislative retreat (have been for almost a month) in the Republic of South Africa when Okafor’s death occurred.

“The Majority Leader of Anambra State House Of Assembly and Member representing Awka South Constituency 1, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor (Akajiugo Awka) collapsed in the early hours of today in a Hotel at Sandton City Johannesburg, South Africa and was confirmed dead hours later,” a source in a WhatsApp political group announced. “Cause of his death is yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report. May His Gentle Soul Rest In Peace, Amen.”

Okafor’s death is yet to be officially confirmed by the leadership of the state house of assembly.

The deceased was a US-trained pharmacist who ran his own pharmaceutical company with diagnostic services.
