The treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Northeast Zone – Galadima Abba Itas – has quit the party because of the party’s “unjust treatment of Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike during and after the primary convention.”

The choice of Delta Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate to PDP presidential candidate – Atiku Abubakar – contradicts the principles and ideologies of the party, Itas said.

The current situation in PDP does not inspire confidence and signifies that the party is not ready to wrest power from the ruling APC in 2023, Itas wrote in the resignation letter he sent to the ward chairman of PDP in Itas Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Tuesday,

“I write to tender my resignation as zonal treasurer (Northeast) and a member of Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP). My resignation was as a result of wide consultations with my teaming supporters, political associates and in response to the unfair and unjust treatment extended to His Excellency, Barr Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, the Executive Governor of Rivers State during and after the presidential primary convention,” Itas wrote.
