The Nigerian government says it has secured the release of popular singer-songwriter Kizz Daniel who was arrested in Tanzania Monday after failing to show up for a paid concert in the country.
The chairperson of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Monday night announced the musician had been released.
The organisers of the Summer Amplified Show arrested the Buga hitmaker for failing to perform at the well-publicised show on Sunday night.
Fans of the singer were forced to wait until the following morning for a live performance but Daniel was a no-show.
The singer was reported to have arrived in the country earlier but refused to perform because of unavailability of his clothes.
A viral video on Twitter shows the singer wearing a black hoodie as he was being escorted into a Tanzanian police van.
But while reacting to a tweet on Monday night from a twitter user pleading for Nigeria’s intervention, Dabiri-Erewa wrote that: “KD has been released,” adding that the singer’s legal team would report back to the Tanzanian police today (Tuesday) “while he will subsequently return back to Nigeria.”
